Sony Xperia Z2 Review

With the global release set in April 2014 and the European official launch pushed in May, retailers are lining up to sell this new device and customers are pre-ordering… like there’s no tomorrow.

The best of Sony in a smartphone. This is how the industry press described this new device. And they are right. Back in 2013, we had a beautiful surprise with Xperia Z1 and now, the Sony’s new handset managed to impress us yet again.

Weight: 163 grams

Dimensions: 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm

Camera: 20.7 MP

Display: 5.2” Full HD TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile with X-Reality

OS: Google Android 4.4 (Kitkat)

Processor: 2.3 GHz Qualcomm MSM8974AB Quad-core

Compared to its predecessor, Z2 comes with an improved screen and more power, whereas the look is almost identical. The display has certainly been improved a lot since the Z1, being now one of the best available at the moment.

What we truly love about this device is the 20.7 MP camera which is the best camera available on a waterproof phone, topping Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC 1M8 in low light. The 4K video recording capacity is not something new, but due to its sensor, Z2 established itself as leader so far. One more poit if compared to Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8.

The device is very robust yet elegant, with that touch of glass, but, as Z1 and iPhone user can confirm, when you look at your phone, you might feel as a CSI agent with all those fingerprints.

Another cute perk is the “tap to wake” function. It’s not much, but it’s brilliant. For those of you who never heard of it, it’s a simple function that allows you to “wake” your display with a double tap on it.

Finally, the battery is quite impressive. With moderate usage and a bit of attention you can plug it in every other day.
