Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 released in April 2015 is a grand departure from what the company had accustomed us to. And it turns out to be quite fortunate change of pace. Whilst at first glance it may look a bit similar to, say the Iphone 6, it has plenty both design and tech-wise to set itself apart in the crowd.

The Design

phonegain-Samsung-Galaxy-S6-frontThe very first thing that will catch someone’s eye is the all-metal cover that the S6 is donning. There are four colors to choose from: the rather bland white, gold and metallic black and turquoise-blue that have very pleasant, pearlescent-like sheen to them. Noteworthy is the fact that colored variants are quite the fingerprint magnet.     phonegain-samsung-galaxy-s6-colors

Right after getting over that major change in Samsung design, the rest of the phone is otherwise well designed and pleasing. The volume buttons on the left sized are perfectly sized and positioned and the power button has the proper amount of feedback and click. Samsung seems to tread some rather Apple-flavored waters when it comes to the audio jack and speaker, being positioned at the bottom of the phone, possibly doing themselves a disfavor, in some eyes at least. Another relative issue is the rather prominent camera on the back and prone to possible scratching, but it’s justified technologically, caveat still withstanding.

The Hardware

If something can be said wholeheartedly about the Galaxy S6, it’s that its beauty is more than skin deep.

Starting with the innovative screen, it’s a comfortable 5.1 inches and it comes with the usual goodies that Samsung delivers, such as Gorilla Glass and Super Amoled, now with a pixel depth of around 577. Numbers unfortunately fail to exemplify just how gorgeous this screen is. There is absolutely no clear competitor for the S6 in this regard, it’s fidelity, sharpness and vivid color set it far apart from the competition, save the S6 Edge, of which screen is a whole different animal. Noteworthy is the extremely powerful and snappy fingerprint recognition built in, aided by the display’s performance. The aforementioned rear camera is a 16MP workhorse capable of delivering amazing fidelity and performance thanks to its wide aperture, pardoning its rather large size.

Under the hood, the octacore Exynos 7420 CPU and Mali-T760MP8 GPU coupled with a hefty 3Gb of RAM make certain that the display can be used to its fullest and the phone works like an atomic clock.

The S6 has also done away with card slots and is offered in several flavors of internal storage capacity.

The Conclusion

The phone is gorgeous and well designed, standing out in the mainstream crowd. Samsung is showing maturity and progressive thinking regarding the new Galaxy S, providing for demand and then some. As far as power is concerned, there’s really no one to dethrone the Galaxy S6 for the moment, performance-wise, being a Samsung flagship, it’s crammed with as much tech as it’s feasible to be sellable. A phone with innovative design choices and cutting edge technology wrapped in a beautiful package, hampered only by its rather steep price is the final verdict.
