Blackberry launches smartphone for Indonesia

BlackBerry launched today, May 13th, 2014, the new Z3 Jakarta edition, a low-cos device designed specifically for Indonesia. The company announced it will hit the shelves on May 15th for the just $191.

For BB, this is an attempt to win back the market in a country that was once very loyal to the brand.

For this price, the handset has pretty impressive specs: 5 mp rear camera, 1.1 mp front camera, 1080p HD video recording, MicroSD slot and 8Gb storage. Most importantly, it has a 5” all-touch sceen.

The battery lasts up to 15.5 hours in talk time and 16 days in standby. Yes, that’s correct, DAYS.

BlackBerry Z3 was designed for BBM. For those of you who do not know what BBM is, we’re talking about a chat platform which is very popular in Indonesia. You can see the official demo here.

Although it was designed for Indonesia, the device will soon go on market in India, followed by other 5 Asian countries (i.e. Malaysia and Vietnam).

This is a huge market to profit from, but, unfortunately for BB, it lost a lot of the market share due to its largest competitors, Samsung and Apple.
