Apple iPhone 6 – Mixed feelings
Well, Apple managed to get, as it was expected, in the center of attention this days. However, as expected as the big September launch was, as disappointing it turned out to be for some tech freaks. We are going to discuss the new iPhone 6 (or shall we say iPhones?) and see, impartially, what they are offering.
First of all, after all the rumors, we finally get to see a real specifications list:
- 138.1 x 67 x 6.9 mm / 129 g
- 4.7 inches, LED-backlit IPS LCD, 16M colors, 326 ppi
- Shatter proof glass, oleophobic coating
- 3.5 mm jack (audio)
- 16/64/128 GB storage, no card slot (what a surprise…)
- 1 GB RAM
- USB 2.0
- 8 MP Camera, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, ouch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, panorama, HDR
- iOS 8
- Apple A8 Chipset
- Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone
- Non removable battery (again, what a surprise…)
Also, we must add that the handset is available Gold, Silver, and Space Gray.
The bigger iPhone, as everyone is calling the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, has a few slight differences, besides the screen size. First of all, it’s a bit thicker, with 7.1 mm instead of 6.9. It also has a longer battery life and optical image stabilization for the camera.
In terms of design, we don’t see much of a difference, if we compare the new device with the last year’s model. Same rounded corners and metal finishes. However, there is a small thing that makes the difference. The power button is now placed on the right side of the device, for easy handling with one hand. Hello, Apple, it was about time you do that. Samsung and other competitors figured that out for ages now.
We do love the fact that both devices have a stunning Retina HD Display, with an impressive 1334 x 750 (326 ppi) resolution on the iphone 6 and 1920 x 1080 (401 ppi) on its larger sibling.
Remember when Steve Jobs said that no one is going to buy a bigger phone. Samsung sure did, and they most certainly took the opportunity to enhance the contradiction in Apple’s path.

In just a few words, the community has mixed feelings about this product. Great for Apple fans, but quite disappointing for the geeks who have been expecting some stunning innovation.
You can pre-order the device starting September 12th.
